Contacts Keep Teenagers Happy!
No teenager wants to be seen wearing something out of style, and for some teens, eyeglasses can often feel that way. The mere thought of ''four eyes'' can send a teen panicking. Compared to glasses, kids and teens that opt for lenses feel a significant enhancement in their appearance, reports a recently published study. The research results show that beginning from the age of eight, pre-teens should be offered the option of contact lenses. Researchers published the study in the November issue of Eye & Contact Lens, the official publication of the Contact Lens Association.
What is it about contacts that teenagers prefer? Teens are self-conscious, and they often feel better about themselves if they're not sporting a pair of eyeglasses. Lenses can help young adults feel greater self-esteem and more comfort around others by giving them a less obvious option for vision correction.
Although teens are frequently provided with contact lenses, children under 13 are usually not offered the option of contacts, due to the fact that eye care practitioners or parents don't believe that children have the proper maturity to care for them properly. In truth, with the right guidance, even at age eight, children are as competent at wearing and tending for contact lenses and they should be given the option.
Of course before your child buys lenses you will want to consult your eye care practitioner to go over any possible problems your child might have. Our Northridge optometry practice will be glad to assist you in determining the right plan for your teenager's contacts.
If your pre-teen or adolescent needs vision correction, why not try contacts? Through something as simple as a contact lens, you can make a world of a difference for your teen. With the wide selection of contacts on the market, you and your eye care practitioner can work with your child to decide what modality is most suitable for their character and style of life.
