How to Get Sunscreen Out of Eyes
If you have ever witnessed an unfortunate encounter between sunscreen and eyes, you are aware just how painful it can be. A very good rub in the eye can sometimes cause burning that lasts for hours. It can take a long time before the victim can open his eyes, particularly in the glaring sun.
There's no doubt rubbing sunscreen in your eyes can ruin a day by the pool. Though it is common that effects will remain for some time, relief will come more quickly with proper attention.
The best treatment is immediately flushing the eye out with running water for some time. Doing so should rinse the lotion out of the eye but it may not relieve the discomfort at once. While it won't help to remove the sunscreen, applying cool, wet compresses to the eyes may cause some relief. Using eye drops such as Visine may assist in flushing out the eye, but they will burn.
Remember, although the summer is almost over, it is recommended to use sunblock throughout the year to defend your skin from the dangers of ultraviolet light.
Preventative Tips
- Do not spray sunblock directly on the face.
- Never permit small children to apply sunscreen alone.
- Don't leave sunscreen in reach of children.
- Never let small children rub in sunscreen. If they have sunscreen on their hands they may rub it in their eyes.
- Do not apply sunblock too close to the eyes.
- Use large sunglasses to guard the eyes and the areas around them from UV rays.
